In/Motion, Chicago's International Dance Film Festival
Intern
September 2018-March 2019
Responsibilities: Assist in marketing for the film festival; help run various social media counts; brainstorm and act on new marketing strategies; communicate with participating artists and patrons; format email announcements and press releases; research grants the organization is eligible for; aid in rating and selecting dance films; assist in other tasks as needed.
Overall, I gained lots of knowledge, information, and built many new relationships within the dance and film world; however, I also learned that I enjoy working in an administrative setting. The tasks that I was assigned I enjoyed doing, specifically drafting, scheduling, and sending out email campaigns, and I believe I did them well. Having this opportunity helped me see what goes into the inner-workings of an organization like In/Motion, and helped me to understand the importance of organization and planning. These events are not easy to create, but are important and valuable, and it is necessary that a team be willing to put in difficult work to help the event come to fruition.

Adaptive Dance Final Project
Creating a physically integrated dance or adaptive dance program This project showed me the challenges that come with creating your own program. It made me think about where a program like this is needed and what places would benefit from a program that brings physically integrated dance to public schools. |

In/Motion was an opportunity for artists to share their artistic voice. The festival was refreshing to see because it was a reminder to me of how amazing the dance community is when it is open and accepting. It also reminded me that art can make you uncomfortable, and that is ok. Artists were brought together by this festival and were able to discuss and reflect on important topics within the dance world. The dialogue created allowed artists to learn and grow together.

Attending the symposium provided insightful commentary on classical works and gave me context to the issue of racial inequality in the dance world.
Midwest Convening on Physically Integrated Dance
October 1, 2016
October 1, 2016
The convening was my first formal introduction to physically integrated dance. It was a transformative experience because it allowed me to see dance in a different light and challenged my definition of dance in a very valuable way. Discussing avenues for change and ways to further the growth of adaptive and physically integrated dance was an opportunity to hear the perspective of professionals and those involved in the field.
